Lucky Number 7

We've entered the month of September. So this week, we're devoting our show to the "sept" part of September, and looking at the number seven in music history. It's a show we're calling "Lucky Number 7."

Did you know...

  • The famous Gymnopédie No. 1 by Erik Satie features prominent major-seventh chords throughout.
  • Elmer Bernstein's score to the film The Magnificent Seven (based on the film Seven Samurai) provides most of the action, since the film relies mostly on slow wide-angle shots.
  • In Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber, the character Max casts seven magic bullets to help him win a shooting contest.
  • The song "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes is frequently played in stadiums during soccer matches.
