The composer and librettist of this piece went through plenty of trials and tribulations before the premiere of this musical classic. Among other problems, the censors demanded that a dance scene be removed from the final product. The premiere was delayed a few days as the work was revised to appease the authorities, but it didn't change too much. In the end, the boy still gets the girl, and the royalty still plays the fool.
