Indiana’s eighth congressional district is contributing a new Republican congressman to the GOP’s new House majority in Washington.
The loss of the 8th district seat in congress is a blow to Democrats…Brad Ellsworth, who made an unsuccessful Senate bid, currently holds the seat. Democratic Indiana representative Trent Van Haaften made a run for Ellsworth’s seat, but it’s Newburgh heart surgeon and first-time candidate Larry Bucshon who will be one of the new faces in in the next congress.
Bucshon ran a well-funded campaign for over a year, narrowly winning a primary crowded with Tea Party candidates in May. But his victory last night came more handily, beating his Democratic opponent by double digits. In what may reflect this election’s anti-establishment mood, 8th district Libertarian John Cunningham, who barely campaigned, walked away with 5% of the vote.
