Chris Gaal’s parents came to the United States as refugees from Hungary following the 1956 uprising against Soviet occupation. His father got a job working at Cummins Diesel Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana. Chris moved to Bloomington in 1985 to attend Indiana University. He has been active in the community over the years working on a range of social and environmental issues. After graduating from the Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington, Chris joined the law firm of R.T. Miller & Associates, and later became a partner in the firm Miller & Gaal. Chris was elected to the Bloomington City Council in 1999 to represent District 6. He was re-elected to the council in 2003 as an At-Large representative. Chris was then elected Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney in 2006, where he has worked hard to professionalize the office, and develop greater ties with the community to address important public safety issues such as elder crimes, sexual assault, and dropout prevention. Chris Gaal is married to Dr. Beth Florini, and they have a three-year-old daughter Ava. In his spare time, Chris enjoys an active lifestyle hiking, biking, sailing, kayaking, and playing guitar.
