First Lady To Write Book About White House Garden

Her Garden's Story

Michelle Obama's newest venture - writing a book.

Crown Publishing, a division of Random House, has given Mrs. Obama a book deal to write about the White House garden, her "Lets Move!" campaign, and her family's favorite recipes.

"We wanted to share the story with the rest of the nation and perhaps with the rest of the world," Mrs. Obama told the Associated Press. "We get so many questions about the garden: How did we do it? Why did we do it? How do I do this in my own home or community?" The book will also contain recipes, she says.

The book will be written with the help of a ghost writer and is expected to be on stands in April 2012.

Answers Questions, Giving Back

According to the Guardian, the first lady has said she was partly influenced by a pediatrician who expressed concern about the diet of the Obama children, Malia and Sasha, who were brought up in Chicago on processed fast-foods and how they might put on weight.

Mrs. Obama got her hands dirty in the White House garden last week. She joined kids from a Washington D.C. elementary school to plant the seeds for the garden's third season. This year the garden has spinach, peas, lettuce, broccoli, blueberries, raspberries and other vegetables and herbs.

According to the publishing company, the profits from the book will be donated to a yet to be determined charity.
