Eat Organics For Lower Levels Of Pesticides

Scientists have found lower pesticide levels in individuals who eat organic foods.

The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), conducted by the University of Washington, is the largest study of its kind to date.

Research began in 1999. Nearly 4,500 participants from six major U.S. metropolitan areas were quizzed on their dietary habits, including their organic food consumption.

Researchers then measured participants' urine for levels of organophosphates -- a common pesticide used in the U.S. Organophosphates are said to cause a host of neurological issues in humans.

Those who ate conventionally-grown produce had double the amount of organophosphates in their urine as compared to those who ate organic versions.

Results aside, researchers say that consuming more fruits and vegetables -- organic or otherwise -- is more important than avoiding conventional produce.
