Deen Announces Diabetes, Stands By Cooking

Images of doughnut burgers and sticks of butter are conjured up when thinking of celebrity cook Paula Deen.

Light-hearted commentary aside, Deen announced Tuesday she is dealing with a very serious disease -- type 2 diabetes.

Deen has lived with her diagnosis for three years before making it public. She has accepted a spokesperson position for Novo Nordisk, the company that supplies her diabetes medication.

She also has made some lifestyle changes, like cutting out sweet tea and walking.

What she hasn't done is apologize for or reconcile her high-fat, high-sugar cooking she endorses on TV.

Deen argues she always has preached moderation in her cooking. She points out the meals she makes are not meant to be enjoyed daily.

Her son, Bobby, has attempted to take on her foods and cook healthier versions on his show, "Not My Mama's Meals."

What do you think? Is Deen missing the point, or is it important she champions moderation? Share your thoughts below!
