David Baker 80th Birthday Celebration At Indiana University

Jacobs School of Music faculty, alumni, and students will pay musical homage to the leader of IU's jazz studies program.

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will host an 80th-birthday tribute to jazz educator, composer and performer David Baker on Saturday, January 21 at the Musical Arts Center on the IU campus in Bloomington.

Among the alumni returning to perform are drummer Shawn Pelton, bassist Bob Hurst, pianists Michael Weiss and Jim Beard, saxophonists Ralph Bowen and Jack Wilkins, and trumpeters Pharez Whitted and Scott Wendholt. The concert, which begins at 8 p.m., will be live-streamed by the IU Jacobs School of Music on its IUMusicLive website.

There will also be an afternoon panel discussion with Baker, David Baker: a Legacy in Music author Monika Herzig, and contributing authors David Ward-Steinman, J.B. Dyas, Brent Wallarab, Lissa May, and John Edward Hasse. The panel discussion takes place at 3:00 pm in the Musical Arts Center.
