With only two paid employees, Opportunity House is almost all volunteer-run. Jeanne Overly has been volunteering there for almost 30 years.

Opportunity House is a nonprofit resale store. Its mission is to raise funds for Monroe County United Ministries (MCUM), with all of the store’s profits going to support MCUM’s programs, including their sliding-scale daycare.

The store also provides free clothing and household items to individuals and families referred through MCUM’s Community Emergency Clothing Service. It is run almost entirely by volunteers, who wash, sort, and price donations.

Opportunity House has expanded significantly since it began in 1968 as a rummage sale of leftover donations to MCUM.  With its own storefront Opportunity House now serves about thirty customers every day.
