“The thing is we’re funding the culture. The culture to be passed down from generation to generation. It’s such a shame what’s happening overseas to the culture. The edifices and the art of so many years ago are being destroyed by barbarians. And it’s part of civilization that you have to pass on what has been in order to duplicate or improve on what will be.”

–Lois Eskenazi, who with her husband Sidney has given $15 million to the Indiana University Art Museum, now known as the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art.  The couple also donated a collection of 100 works of art, including prints and drawings by 20th-century masters Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Jean Dubuffet.
