David Effron will lead the IU Phil in a symphony composed in a period of relative calm and happiness in Mahler's life.
Mahler being perhaps the most morbid of all classical composers, it is fitting that we use the anniversary of his death as a chance to look back on his music.
"People hearing this work have very strong feelings. Some will love it, some may actually hate it. There doesn’t seem to be much middle ground."
