Ol' Blue Eyes In Terre Haute

Multi talented singer, composer, actor and writer Rick Vale was a recent guest with the Terre Haute Symphony for their Christmas show. He returns to Terre Haute for an evening of music of the "Chairman of the Board."

Vale regularly sings with the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra and at the same time guests with area orchestras. He describes the orchestra concerts, like the upcoming engagement in Terre Haute as, "A lot of fun. I enjoy the traveling and meeting new people. And as, I've gotten a bit older with more experience and a chance to do music that I'm very familiar with, I can relax and really enjoy the evening."

Vale did hear Sinatra early on, but it was later that his influence took hold. "My parents did have some recordings, but I was really in college before I started singing the jazz inflected pieces from the American Songbook. The Sinatra that affected me came from the movies and those sound track recordings," said Vale. "He was such a terrific talent and at the same time came up at such a perfect time in the history of Broadway, the movies and don't forget the importance of radio."

In addition to the concerto on April 21, Vale is doing a cabaret style fund raiser for the THSO titled "Sinatra at Your Table."
