Early Music Heads East
In an upcoming broadcast of Performance Today, listeners will be treated to a performance by the early musical ensemble Sacabuché. The ensemble has become a leader in the performance of music with sackbutts and cornetti with its roots in the Jacobs School. Sacabuché embark shortly on a trip to Beijing, China where they will present the premiere performance of The Map and Music of Matteo Ricci; a program that seeks to "reanimate the pivotal cultural exchange between the Italian Jesuits and Chinese of literati of the seventeenth-century. "
The concert will be held at the Chinese National Centre for the Performing Arts on December 12 and consists of a multimedia presentation with narration from Matteo Ricci's writing and that of his contemporaries as well as Italian and Chinese music of the time and new compositions written for Sacabuché by Chinese composer Huang Ruo and American composer Eli Marshall.
Southern Indiana audiences can hear a preview of this concert on Monday night, November 22nd at 5:30pm in Auer Hall.
Performance Today is heard on WFIU Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 1:00pm and Wednesday at 1:30pm.

Two For Teaching
On Monday night's episode of Pipedreams, audiences will hear recordings of two new collegiate organs -the University of North Texas new instrument by Hellmuth Wolff and the Jacobs School's Seward Organ. Performances of the new organ built by C.B. Fisk were recorded earlier this year during a live concert heard on WFIU and hosted by Pipedreams' Michael Barone.
