But it was the transverse flute that was his favorite instrument, and he considerably extended its repertory. Here Stephen Schultz performs these works for five flutes alone in a seamless example of multi-track editing.

Brahms: Complete Works for Solo Piano, Vol. 4

(Oehms Classics OC 743)

Andreas Boyde, piano

From the years 1863 to 1878, Brahms was silent in the solo piano genre. These were formative years for the German composer as he became a composer of tremendous reputation. What emerged in 1878 were the two sets of pieces, the Opuses 76 and 79, which showed that Brahms had rethought his conception of solo piano music. These works are paired with the Op. 116 Fantasies and performed beautifully by Andreas Boyde.
