Annunciation + Visitation: Operatic projections of sexual insight

Exploring two very different aspects of female sexuality is the multi-media experience “Annunciation + Visitiation.”

The borders between technology and the arts have been growing thinner and thinner in this modern, digital age. That’s been the focus of the 2008-2009 I-U New Frontier Program Grants. And the latest project to come out of that program hits the stage this weekend at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. Exploring two very different aspects of female sexuality is the multi-media experience “Annunciation + Visitiation.” Guest Stage Director Tim Nelson of American Opera Theater in Baltimore is in town to direct the project, and he spoke with Artworks’ David Wood.

“Annunciation + Visitation” will be on stage at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater this Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 3pm in downtown Bloomington.

David Wood

Originally from Leavenworth, Kansas, David Wood moved to Bloomington in 2005. He received his Bachelor of Music from Kansas State University, and his Master of Music from the University of North Texas. He studied ensemble direction at the Jacobs School of Music's Early Music Institute and joined WFIU in 2006 as an announcer. In 2008 he became WFIU's Music Director and also served as Art Bureau Chief from 2008-2013. David’s interests include Irish music and language (particularly traditional singing), music and religion, running, the outdoors, and, of course, classical music!
