Hip-Hop Benefit For Rhino's
Hip-hop tends to see less attention around the Midwest than most other musical genres, and most people think of East Coast/West Coast when it comes to rappers. But that doesn't mean hip-hop isn't alive and well in Indiana.
Rhino's Youth Media Center and All-Ages Club has put together quite a showcase of Indiana talent for their Hip-hop Benefit Show. Among the seven acts on the bill are Bloomington's own DJ Wally Wonder. For years now, he has been spinning hip-hop, soul, rock, electro and more in venues like The Bluebird and The Video Saloon. He can also be seen as the DJ for Bloomington-based indie hip-hop powerhouse, Tree City All-Stars.
The show's headliner is C-Rayz Walz. He has garnered national attention for his focus on lyrics and wordplay, performing with other hip-hop artists like Aesop Rock, Immortal Technique and Kosha Dillz.
Rhino's strives to be the region's premier all-ages (alcohol-free and drug-free) music venue. In addition to musical performances, it offers after-school programs for area youth, including video, radio, journalism, and visual arts projects.

Papercuts And Mike Adams: Freak Folk Frontmen
Indie pop band Papercuts combines elements of pop and folk into beautiful, introspective songs. Helmed by San Francisco singer/songwriter Jason Quever, the band started out on San Francisco's Gnomonsong record label, now moving on to indie mainstay label Sub Pop. Over the course of four albums, the band shown that they can consistently produce affecting atmospheric and melodic indie pop songs. Their latest album, "Fading Parade," will be released on March 1.
Opening the show is Bloomington's own Mike Adams, the frontman for the band Husband & Wife, which has built its own loyal following around the area. He just released his own solo album on Bloomington label Flannelgraph Records, "Oscillate Wisely." It's a great debut of atmospheric pop songs written with true Midwest heart.

Wanda Jackson: Queen Of Rockabilly
Wanda Jackson is 73 and has seen a lot in life, including a brief relationship with Elvis, but she still sings with the same passion and grit that she sang with when she started her career in 1954. She combines old-fashioned honky-tonk and rock-a-billy, singing with a signature growl that has inspired female singers for decades.
For her latest album, "The Party Ain't Over," Jackson teamed up with musician/producer Jack White of The White Stripes. White does a great job of bringing fresh instrumentation and arrangement to the album's songs without losing the gritty vintage rock n' roll sound of Jackson's style and voice.
