This week on Afterglow it’s “Jazz Impressions of Showboat,” we pay tribute to the 80th anniversary of the Jerome Kern-Oscar Hammerstein musical’s launch with performances from trumpeters Kenny Dorham and Clifford Brown, singers Margaret Whiting and Bing Crosby, drummer Paul Motian, guitarist Jimmy Raney, and many more artists, including Paul Robeson and his showstopping, anthemic rendition of “Ol’ Man River.”
