Technical Director/Digital Engineer, Radio and Television Services
Job Summary: Serves as technical director/switcher of live and live-to-server/tape HD video projects and on field and studio multi-camera productions for documentary, magazine, corporate and educational programs, utilizing multi-cameras, graphics, varying playback sources, digital effects and complex SD/HD signal flow/routing to achieve Director-called final switched product.
Participates in a variety of broadcast and closed-circuit operations, including setup and operation of broadcast equipment in the origination, transmission, reception, evaluation and recording of audio and video signals. Assists in production planning, including establishing technical procedures and methods and in evaluating and recommending equipment purchases. Performs maintenance on remote, field, and studio equipment; instructs other technicians and operators; and prepares reports, proposals and research.

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications, communications, or related field and two years of professional experience in broadcast or high-end instructional or industrial television or video production, including hands-on experience with video switchers, video routers, server and tape machines, digital video effects, video monitors and cameras.
Possess a valid driver’s license with ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Ability to communicate, both written and verbal, with staff and outside agencies especially regarding technical matters; strong journalism and story-telling ability; and knowledge of and experience with Sony and/or Grass Valley/Thompson HD video switchers. Ability to manage projects and digital workflow in a live production environment; and to work both independently and closely with producers/directors/engineers within a deadline-driven, live production atmosphere.
Preferred: Three to five years total experience including additional experience with videography, lighting, audio and editing on non-linear/digital editing systems.
Note: This position involves regular or frequent shifts during evening and weekend periods.
Additional Information: Indiana University-Radio/Television Services and WTIU Public Television serves south-central Indiana, collaborating on productions with other PBS stations in the state and region, producing a wide range of television programs for local, state, and national distribution; producing a variety of digital media products; and servicing a robust lineup of both Indiana University and non-university clients.
