DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Create content for radio, podcasts, online, and online video that has national/global marketing potential and meets production standards and deadlines. Host on-air and online productions. Manage online social media content and activity with a strategy to increase audience. Guide staff in content development and multi-platform production and delivery. Produce content for and participate in WFIU on-air and online fund drives. Monitor digital industry trends; generate reports and data related to radio and online.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in cross-platform production, multi-platform content generation, social media applications, radio production, and on-air delivery.
PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in broadcast media, journalism, liberal arts, or music; three years of experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Also required: knowledge of digital audio recording and editing equipment and software, digital video equipment, on-air studio equipment; and ability to learn new digital applications quickly. Knowledge of social media trends and applications; and superior writing skills for on-air radio and online applications. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including a customer service orientation and ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide variety of clients and guests. Strong organizational and time management skills including exceptional problem solving skills and ability to work quickly and efficiently in various audio, video, and online technologies and capacities.
Familiarity with digital audio editing equipment and software, digital video equipment, standard recording equipment, and on-air studio equipment. Knowledge of social media trends and applications. Ability to work quickly and efficiently in various radio, online, and online video technologies and capacities. Superior writing skills for on-air radio and online applications. Ability to interact with a wide variety of clients, guests, and to bring projects to quick and positive conclusions. Ability to learn new digital applications quickly. Working knowledge of music history, literature, and a broad knowledge of the arts are helpful.
Must be familiar with digital cameras, digital audio recorders, studio boards, microphones, and computers. Must also be familiar with a variety of broadcast and online-related software.
This position requires the ability to travel and work extended hours as needed including some evenings and weekends as required.
Must be able to carry up to 30 pounds of audio/online video equipment.
WFIU, a public radio station, has been broadcasting from the Bloomington campus of Indiana University since October 1950. The station is a charter member of the NPR and broadcasts 24 hours a day to 20 counties throughout Indiana. The station broadcasts at 34 kilowatts via 103.7 FM in Bloomington, 95.1 FM in Terre Haute, 100.7 FM Columbus, 101.7 FM in French Lick/West Baden, 98.9 FM in Greensburg and 106.1 FM in Kokomo.
WFIU-FM has a strong history of innovation in new media as evidenced by WFIU.org, and has launched a series of microsites such as EarthEats.org, HarmoniaEarlyMusic.org, AMomentOfScience.org, and KinseyConfidential.org, among others. WFIU is heavily vested in on-air and online content development and distribution.
